Hi, I'm Jamie Lee!
cultural anthropologist and founder of What Fits Coaching
My formal training in anthropology deeply informs my coaching. I do not see people’s personal lives as separate from the cultures, families, workplaces, norms, institutions, and relationship models they are moving through. Many of us inherit scripts about what love should look like, what success should mean, how joy in relationships should be expressed and experienced, what family should be, and what kind of life is considered acceptable. My coaching helps clients pause, examine those scripts, and ask: What actually fits me now?
My work supports people navigating relational and career transitions, especially those rethinking identity, intimacy, work, partnership, and the expectations they were told they had to follow. I bring a background in Cultural Anthropology, more than 14 years of teaching experience in identity, society, structure and agency, and human sexuality, and senior-level experience in policy and organizational leadership.
That combination gives me a systems lens: I understand that personal choices do not happen in a vacuum. Our relationships, careers, desires, and identities are shaped by culture, power, norms, workplaces, family expectations, institutions, and inherited ideas about what a “successful” life should look like.
What Fits Coaching is especially meaningful for people seeking clarity about nontraditional approaches to creating and sustaining community. My goal is to offer a coaching space where clients do not have to begin by explaining or defending their lives.
My approach is grounded, inclusive, and nonjudgmental. Coaching is not therapy, and it is not trauma treatment. My role is to support clients as they clarify what they want, design a life they build brick by brick through intentional and measurable steps, communicate more honestly, and move through change with greater agency and self-trust.
What Fits Coaching is for people who are ready to move from inherited scripts to intentional choices and build lives, relationships, and professional identities that fit who they actually are.
Training and Education
MA in Cultural Anthropology
BA in Political Science
BA in Women's Studies
University of Florida, 2012 & 2007
My academic background brings together Political Science, Women’s Studies, and Cultural Anthropology, with a focus on how people understand themselves, make choices, and build relationships within larger social systems. Political Science gave me a foundation in how systems, laws, institutions, and public life shape people’s choices. Women’s Studies deepened my understanding of gender, sexuality, embodiment, power, and identity. Cultural Anthropology helped me understand culture, meaning-making, kinship, belonging, and the many ways people build relationships, families, and communities. Together, these areas shaped the lens I bring to What Fits Coaching: our lives are shaped by inherited expectations, but we still get to ask what fits, what matters, and what we want to choose next.
